Common questions

How does Tot Recall work?

You save a product by scanning its barcode, typing a name, or picking a car seat. We compare it with recalls published by the Government of Canada (Health Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Transport Canada), the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, several times a day. If a recall matches or may match, we send an alert. Read more: How Tot Recall works.

What does "No recalls found" mean?

It means we found no match among the recalls we know about on the date shown. It does not mean a product is free of defects. We can only find recalls that have been published. Always follow the official recall notice, and register your products with their makers, especially car seats.

What is a "Possible recall"?

A recall that may match your product based on the details you saved. The card says why, and what would settle it, for example the model number on the label. You can answer "Yes, it's affected" or "No, it's not" and change your answer later.

A recall for the same product line that doesn't match the details you saved, for example a different model year. We don't send alerts for these. You can see them under "Past & related recalls".

I'm not getting alerts.

Check that notifications are allowed for Tot Recall in your phone's settings and that alerts are on in the app's Settings. Alerts are sent only when a new recall matches or may match one of your products, and at most once a day for each product.

Can I hide product names in notifications?

Yes: Settings, then the switch to hide product names.

A recall is missing, or a match is wrong.

Tot Recall depends on what the government sources publish and on the details you saved. Add the product's brand, model number or lot code to improve results. If you think we missed a recall, write to us with the link to the official notice.

Can I use the app in French?

Yes. The app is in English and French. Choose the language on the first screen or in Settings. Government recall text is shown in the language the government published it in.

Does Tot Recall cost anything?

No. It is free. There are no ads and no purchases.

Medicines and health products

Tot Recall doesn't give medical advice. If you have questions about a medicine or health product, talk to a pharmacist or doctor.
